I grew up in Bronxville, New York and attended grammar school at St. Joseph’s School. What a great place. Class portraits were always a highlight of the year, and I still have a full collection of the nine years I was there. “Drawing Bunnies with Mrs. Theobald” is based on our art teacher, who was a wonderful woman with bright hair and lilac skirt suits. We would all draw the same bunnies, year after year, exactly the way she told us to, with big floppy ears and simple round bodies. All those years of Catholic school meant many years of uniforms, too. Luckily, we had a choice of summer colors... I always liked the pink one better, hence the painting “Bernadette Prefers Pink.”
